The highly esteemed annual Small Business Awards, taking place in Topeka, Shawnee County, is on the verge of revealing this year’s nominees. The initiative recognises the hard work and dedication of small local businesses, with all companies with a workforce less than 50 people considered for the contest.

This year alone, over 100 nominations have been received, indicating an intense competition filled with determination and innovation. The contest also highlights the critical value of supporting local businesses and promotes a healthy competitive environment, fostering local economic growth.

The winners will be disclosed during a gala event at the Topeka Civic Theatre, the cultural heart of the community. The upcoming announcement has filled Shawnee County with anticipation. On offer are awards for ‘Best Startup,’ ‘Most Innovative Business,’ ‘Environmental Responsibility,’ ‘Community Impact,’ and the sought-after ‘Business of the Year’ award.

The organising entities, GO Topeka and the Greater Topeka Partnership (GTP), have been the supporters of this contest, now in its 43rd year. The event is scheduled for the Townsite Avenue Ballroom on May 9 from 11 am to 1 pm. The day aims to be beneficial for its attendees with networking opportunities, inspiring talks from local business leaders, and workshops.

Participants are also encouraged to bring new business ideas, with substantial funding rewards in view for innovative proposals. Attendees have the chance to carve out potential partnerships, with a conducive environment for professional mingling. A range of food stall will be on offer, including catering from the local restaurants, to add to the enjoyment of the day.
