Gary Lim, ex-entrepreneurship professor, has launched an online program through Thinkific designed to help individuals understand anxiety symptoms and improve their mental health. The course includes six videos discussing various aspects of anxiety disorders, from underlying causes to effective management strategies.

Lim created the course following his personal triumph over anxiety, achieving control without the use of medication. His journey serves as a motivation to assist others on their path to better mental health.

Recent surveys, such as one conducted by CNN/Kaiser Family Foundation, reveal that an estimated 90% of Americans perceive a substantial mental health crisis within the country. Over 50 million citizens are dealing with mental disorders, such as anxiety and depression. This highlights the urgent need for increased focus on mental health provisions and resources, as well as tackling the stigma that impedes people from seeking help.

Early intervention is critical in mental health care, and evidence shows it can substantially enhance recovery prospects. Yet, the financial burden mental health issues bring to individuals and society cannot be overlooked.

Comprehensive mental health insurance coverage and affordable treatments should be endorsed as part of the overall solution.

Mental health care in the U.S. also faces several barriers, including cost and access to quality local treatment. Responding to this challenge, Lim’s remote course offers innovative and accessible solutions. By prioritizing accessibility, the course enables participants to avail vital resources from the comfort of their homes, thus eliminating the traditional roadblocks of high expense and lack of local facilities.

Professionals like Torie Hairston, Sr. Director of a mental health organization, express optimism about digital resources like Lim’s course. According to Hairston, these tools could play a substantial role in promoting emotional well-being in today’s tech-driven world, offering strategies to manage emotions effectively.

Prior to creating his course, Lim held the position of Executive Director of the entrepreneurship program at Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management for five years. He was also a Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry for 13 years. Currently residing in Syracuse, N.Y., Lim continues his work towards better understanding and managing mental health.
